Registration & Scheduling
Set up your NBOME account
Before you can register for and schedule a COMLEX-USA examination, you will need to set up your personal NBOME password-protected online account in the NBOME Client Registration System (CRS):
- In November of your first year of medical school you will receive the “Introduction to the NBOME Client Registration System” email message with instructions for doing so.
- You can then confirm your examination eligibility, select and purchase an examination, confirm billing and payment information, and agree to terms and conditions for your COMLEX-USA examination in accordance with the requirements set out in the Bulletin of Information.
NOTE: Your personal data is treated by the NBOME as confidential. It will not be disclosed to any individual or entity without written, signed consent by you or an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
Once an account is established, users will also be able to:
- Confirm examination eligibility and requirements.
- Select and purchase examinations.
- Change an existing examination date.
- Manage payment and personal information.
- Read and agree to required terms and conditions for registration.
Changes to your Name and Status
In order to take a COMLEX-USA examination, the name on your registration form and on the valid government-issued photo ID presented at the testing center must match.
If your name has changed, download and complete a Name Change Request Form and include a copy of the supporting document noting the name change (e.g., marriage license, divorce decree, court document, naturalization document). Documentation can be scanned and emailed to clientservices@nbome.org. Name changes must be made no later than five (5) business days before the scheduled examination day. If possible, submit the name change form and documentation before registering for an examination.
Log in to your online account to update your mailing address, email address, and phone numbers, located in the in the “Student Information” section under the “My Account” tab.
If you transferred medical schools, you must contact the dean’s office at your old and new schools and request that they forward the information to clientservices@nbome.org.

Retaking An Examination
Candidates may not retake any level of COMLEX-USA to improve their scores or for any purpose other than to pass a previously failed examination. Candidates who have failed an examination may retake the examination a maximum of four times in any 12-month period.
Four-Attempt Limit
Effective July 1, 2022, candidates taking COMLEX-USA examinations are limited to a total of four (4) attempts for each examination (COMLEX-USA Level 1, Level 2-CE, and Level 3), including but not limited to all attempts prior to July 1, 2022. Please see the Bulletin of Information for more information.
|
Candidates taking COMLEX-USA examinations are limited to a total of four attempts for each examination.
The only consideration for an exception to this policy, allowing for one additional attempt beyond the four-attempt limit, is at the explicit request of a medical licensing agency.
For the NBOME to waive the limitation of a maximum of four attempts for any COMLEX-USA examination, candidates are required to obtain a written petition for waiver from a medical licensing agency.
