Retaking COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE

Candidates can reschedule an examination on receipt of the initial score report. You can register for and schedule the retake examination through the NBOME portal. You should see several opportunities for rescheduling, including specific seats reserved for students retaking the examination. Candidates should call the NBOME National Center for Clinical Skills Testing at 866.479.6828 for assistance with scheduling if they do not see an acceptable date within 6–8 weeks from the receipt of the initial report or if they have specific questions.

When rescheduling, candidates should allow adequate time to retake the examination before their school’s graduation deadline, and keep in mind the time required for remediation and rescheduling. When rescheduling an examination, candidates are advised to also check the Score Release Information (typically within 8–10 weeks) and remember that passing COMLEX-USA Levels 1, 2-CE and 2-PE is a requirement for medical school graduation.

Candidates may only take the COMLEX-USA Level 2-PE a total of 6 times, and may only take it 3 times in a 12 month period. Candidates should check the policies of their college of osteopathic medicine for its retake guidelines, which may differ from those of the NBOME.

NOTICE of PLANNED CHANGE to POLICY:
Effective July 1, 2022, candidates taking COMLEX-USA examinations will be limited to a total of four (4) attempts for each examination (COMLEX-USA Level 1, Level 2-CE, Level 2-PE and Level 3), including but not limited to all attempts prior to July 1, 2022. After June 30, 2022, no candidate will be allowed to take any examination more than four (4) times without obtaining approval from the NBOME.
