The NBOME COMLEX-USA series is the primary pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians seeking to practice osteopathic medicine and surgery. The primary purpose of COMLEX-USA is for osteopathic physician licensure.

Passing Level 2-PE indicates that the candidate has demonstrated minimal competence in the fundamental clinical skills and related physician competency domains for osteopathic medical care of patients as required to enter into supervised graduate medical education and to continue lifelong learning.

The NBOME follows best practices in testing and measurement when evaluating our passing standards to ensure COMLEX-USA meets and maintains standards recommended by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, & National Council on Measurement in Education. (2014).

The Level 2-PE is the clinical skills component of COMLEX-USA that fulfills the public and licensing authority mandate for enhanced patient safety by documenting the clinical skills proficiency of graduates from osteopathic medical schools.
